Mirror turned Chalkboard

I love this project (but click her button to check out more too!) from Crystal at

You'll be looking for yard sale mirrors (me too!)! Here is her post:

Ugly Mirror From the 80's Turned Chalkboard

Remember this ugly duckling from a the post I did a couple of weeks ago? I was undecided if I wanted a message center or a chalkboard. Well, I went with the later. I had also fully intended to sell this one, but it turned out so well I kept it for myself. Lucky for me the place I bought it has a twin. So, I'm going back over there tomorrow to pick it up.

The Process:

* Removed the mirror and replaced with plexiglass
* Painted plexiglass with chalkboard paint
* Primed the frame
* Spray painted it white
* Dry brushed it with dark stain
* Replaced the red velvet with burlap
* Let the frame dry, then distressed it with sander

This project took less than a day to complete and it was super easy.

Ready for the reveal? Big difference eh?

Beautiful Neutral Nursery

I received a letter and pictures from one of my readers about her beautiful nursery transformation. I love the orange bedding, the beautiful rug , gorgeous curtains and neutral wall and floor color. Here is her letter:

My husband and our family transformed our small office into a nursery for our twin sons.

They ripped out old carpeting, replaced and repaired bead board, chair railing, base boards, moulding and doors and windows and add crown moulding. They also painted the wood floors a high gloss blue.

We wanted an orange nursery, which we could not find bedding anywhere. My mother in law made the bedding and the curtains. We used my existing teak furniture, painted a bookcase, bought cribs from Walmart, a chair from nursery works and rug from West Elm. We used neutral colors on the walls so the furniture and bedding could be the focus. ~Shannon

And here are the darling after photos:

Thanks for sharing Shannon! Your husband and family did a great job! It's such a cute room for your twin sons!

In other related baby news (no - not that, not me!), I've been taking monthly photos of my nephew and photos of my niece and wanted to share them with you because they are adorable and it's another one of my DIY hobbies. I have the cutest photography practice models! These ones are my favorites. :) This one was taken lying on a blanket in the grass in the yard.

And this one was taken on the barn patio.
