HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

DIY Project Parade and Brooch Wreaths

I was recently inspired by Miranda Lambert's brooch bouquet that I first saw mentioned by my friend Miranda at Just Drink a Coke. Miranda x 2!  This beautiful arrangement of vintage bling immediately had me wanting something similar.  With no need for a brooch bouquet, I was inspired to create a brooch wreath. I call my brooch wreath "my Miranda Wreath".  It was a fun project for my daughter, Bri, and I to do together. We loved brooch hunting just as much as seeing our ideas become reality. We still have to find a few more pieces to fill in, but couldn't wait to share our progress. 

My wreath is done in golds, silvers with touches of blues/greens.

So much pretty vintage bling! 

Using costume jewelry, vintage brooches, buttons, earrings, pins, charms, etc. found at thrift stores and yard sales (LOTS of them...it takes time to collect over 100 for one wreath), Bri and I both created beautiful wreaths.  They're so interesting to look at with so many unique pieces. We also used Styrofoam wreaths, Krylon spray paint, Deco Art MagiKote (seals the Styrofoam texture to accept paint), Deco Art craft paints, straight pins and hot glue.

Bri's wreath is bursting with color.  I can't wait to see this hanging on her wall with her assortment of framed colorful vintage postcards. Let's hope she shares a picture with us!

DIY Project Parade - Deck Day Bash

With it being a short week, we managed a simple little DIY paint touch up...

This is what it looked like before...

We sanded the peeling paint and with a quick touch up using my favorite Purdy paint brush...it's looks so much better. Small things make a difference too!

And...just wanted to share that I'm so proud of both of my girls.  This week, baby girl graduated from high school.  Congratulations, sweetheart!  You've become a beautiful, smart young woman.  Live your best life!  I can't believe how quickly they've grown up, how much I miss them being little girls and how quiet it's going to be at home soon. I might need a big blog group hug...

DIY Project Parade and LOTS of Tweaks in the Kitchen

Hurray! Long 3 day weekends = catching up on small projects for us mixed in with picnics and family get togethers. I couldn't decide whether to share this post or wait until the reveal but I just get so excited about finishing touches and progress that I HAVE to share with my blog friends.  :)    

We've installed bamboo blinds in the kitchen...

The over-the-sink light fixture is being change as we speak (or type or you read)!

 This window will be getting a frame in the near future...

Mr. DIY LOVES the view of his other love (Big Green Egg).

We installed a magnetic strip to the backsplash. Not exactly "vintage/farmhouse" but the best part about owning a home is doing what you love, what works and compromising/mixing styles.  It makes for a great team. If Mr. DIY is happy, I'm happy.  The little touch of Ikea is okay with me. 

How to Hang Accessories on Tiled Backsplash:

IN THE GROUT, mark where screws need to be for hanging.  Use a level to keep things straight. 

Mr. DIY likes his knives and kitchen utensils within easy reach near the stove and cutting board. Enter:  The Grundtal (Ikea).  It's magnetic.  

Breaking away for a minute:

He does the cooking.  For example we had ricotta/spinach/mushroom stuffed white fish wrapped in bacon this week.  I've told him he needs to start his own cooking blog. It was soooo good! This helps you to understand why compromising on decor in the kitchen to his liking and approval is important. When you get to eat like this often, your decorating tastes are a little more flexible.  :)

Now back to the tutorial:

Drill into the grout line.

Add a ceramic anchor by tapping it in the drilled hole lightly...

Ready for screws...

Attach the magnet - carefully keep fingers away from the back of the magnet.  It's VERY strong and you'll get a pinch if your fingers are in the way!

Clean off fingerprints.  Bon Ami All Purpose Cleaner is great for cleaning stainless steel.

Utensils within easy reach!
